Review: The Scorch Trials

Aidan Hirsch, Staff Writer

The Maze Runner 2: Scorch Trials is a great film about the adventures of Thomas and his fellow “Gladers.” Thomas and his friends face their biggest challenge yet, which is searching for clues about the mysterious and powerful organization known as WCKD. Escaping WCKD takes them to the Scorch, which is a desolate landscape filled with strange and unimaginable obstacles. The goal of the characters is for Thomas and his friends to make it to the Right Arm safely and start their lives over again. The Right Arm is an army that fights against those who have been infected with the Flare virus. Unfortunately, that goal is a hard one to attain. Multiple scenes in the movie will have you jumping out of your seat and feeling nervous. As the New York Times wrote, “Its many chases and ludicrous narrow escapes offer respectable doses of adrenaline.” Many scenes in the movie will have you thinking about what could possibly happen next or wonder how Thomas and his friends could get out of this situation. The director shot lots of cool scenes in the movie that involved Thomas and his friends escaping. Specifically, one scene that had me sitting at the edge of my seat was when Thomas and his friends attempt to escape WCKD.

The main actors in the film are Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, whom you might remember as the little boy in Love, Actually, and Kaya Scodelario. The film is directed by Wes Ball.   The graphics and effects were fascinating to see and I could really appreciate all the effort put in by everyone who made the movie. Overall, I definitely recommend watching it. The movie is being shown in Enfield, CT, and Cinemark at Hampshire Mall in Amherst, as well as in West Springfield. There are plenty of opportunities for whomever is interested in the movie to go watch it.
