On Saturday May 13, about 80 students attended MacDuffie’s casino-themed prom.

It was held at La Notte, a venue in East Windsor, Connecticut, beginning at 7:00 PM and lasting until 10:00 PM with music, dancing, and dinner.

With the theme of the dance being “casino,” there was a poker table set up where students could choose to play and bet with chips. There was also a photo booth which was a favorite for many students.

Planning this night took many months of work and fundraising. According to Junior Arda Sengun, who was on the Prom-planning committee, the Junior class had to raise about $5,000 to pay for the venue, food, DJ, and decorations.

“It was really hard to raise the money and plan everything out, but it was worth it. We had to organize a lot and plan a lot for fundraising,” Sengun said.

Junior Beyza Tumturk, president of the Junior class, agreed that the planning was the hardest part.

“We had a lot of… meetings and we had to compromise to make everyone happy and work with the budget,” she said.

Despite the challenges, Sengun and Tumturk both agreed that the prom turned out to be a success, noting that people especially enjoyed the food, music, and poker table.

However, Junior Cassidy Lu, vice president of the Junior class, and some others felt that the venue was too far away.

“The location was a little far and I wish it was closer,” Lu said.

Despite this, many students enjoyed the prom and had a great evening.

“I had fun. My favorite part is always the dancing, so I was up there dancing a lot. That was definitely my favorite part,” Senior and student-body president, Talia Wiesel said.

Sophomore Alina Amaya-Branche shared this sentiment, saying “It was really fun. I had a great time with my friends.”
