Traditional Apple Dessert “Charlotte”

Polina Spirina, Senior Staff

I hope all of you staying healthy and safe. Since before that I was writing recipes for first courses, it’s time to talk about one dessert recipe.

At all times, among the infinite variety of baking recipes, the most popular were simple in composition and method of preparation. It’s no secret that unpretentious dishes are often tastier than complex ones. Apple charlotte is an example of this. Today we know it as the simplest sponge cake made from flour, sugar, egg, and apples.

For this dessert, you will need 6 big apples, 1 cup of sugar, 3 eggs, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 cup of flour, ½ cup of milk, and a pinch of vanilla.

Step 1: Wash the apples and cut them into slices, removing the core. Turn on the oven, so it will preheat (180-200 degrees C, 375 degrees F).

Step 2: Beat eggs and sugar until sugar dissolves. Add milk and whisk again for a few seconds.

Step 3: Mix the sifted flour with baking powder and gently pour it into a sweet mixture. Add vanilla. Knead a thin dough.

Step 4: Grease the cake pan with vegetable oil, but preferably with butter. Put apples in the pan. Fill with half the dough. Put the apples again and the rest of the dough on top.

Step 5: Bake for about 25 minutes.

The ready cake turns out fabulously delicate and fragrant! Bon Appetit!
